Important application or use of experience (word and its meaning) in ones personal / professional life is to handle limitations. Experience must teach us to push the boundaries of limitations. Diplomacy is one critical area which it should address.
No matter how experienced you are, you are bound to make mistakes... many times very critical mistakes. Diplomacy's main objective is to get desired work done and reducing the frictions to the minimum. There is no place for how one feels or for emotions. Objective is to "gain".
Under extreme stress, your diplomatic skills are challenged. People who have gone through high stress situations understand you. Others take your behaviour on face value. "Gain" takes back seat. Your EGO rules you. You forget your relationships, family, friends, team or any such entity you belong to.... And always outcome of such behaviour (lack of diplomacy) is, you loose something... something which is vital to you. And in the process you loose a part of you... which you have learnt by putting lot of efforts.
Last Saturday I lost something.....
